Sergio Borges Chaia is president and chief executive officer of Nextel Brazil, a subsidiary of NII Holdings, Inc., which is a provider of differentiated mobile communication services for businesses and high value consumers in Latin America. With operations in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Chile, NII is a Fortune 500 company and trades on the NASDAQ market under the symbol NIHD.

Mr. Chaia has headed Nextel Brazil since January 2007. Previously, he held the position of president and chief executive officer of Sodexho Pass do Brasil, a major food services solutions provider, for six years. He joined Sodexo as a marketing director in 1996, later serving as Human Resources director and Marketing director. Mr. Chaia also held leadership positions in the areas of marketing and sales at multinational companies such as Pfizer, Makro, Pepsi Cola and KFC, in Brazil and South America.

In 2010 and 2011, Mr. Chaia was recognized with the Valor Executive award in the telecommunications category. For his leadership of Nextel Brazil, Mr. Chaia was also recognized as Executive of the Year in South America by the International Business Awards (Stevie Awards).

Mr. Chaia was granted a business administration degree by the Fundação Getulio Vargas, where he also earned a graduate degree in marketing and finance. He participated in the general management program at the INSEAD business school in France.
