CLAUDIO HIDALGO
President
Nextel Chile
Claudio A. Hidalgo is President of Nextel Chile, a subsidiary of NII Holdings, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s operations by providing strategic guidance and identifying and capturing growth opportunities.
As President of Nextel Chile, Hidalgo’s primary focus will be to grow the company’s subscriber base, offering the country’s high-value customers unique and differentiated telecommunications services with best-in-class customer service.
In addition, he will be a key contributor to the evolution of the company’s business. Hidalgo will spearhead the development of the company’s 3G network, which will use the 60 MHz of spectrum the company successfully acquired in an auction in 2009.
Hidalgo has extensive experience in the telecommunications sector. Prior to joining Nextel Chile, he served as vice president of mobile business and 3G projects for VTR, a Chilean telecommunications company and subsidiary of Liberty Global, Inc. He has also held various executive positions in leading telecommunications organizations. He was president and chief executive officer of Telefónica Moviles Panama and Nicaragua; and was president and chief executive officer of Movistar Puerto Rico. Hidalgo has also launched several entrepreneurial ventures.
Hidalgo is graduated of Gabriela Mistral University where he has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
